What happened
Mortar rounds struck civilians waiting for boats at Tawahi port on 6 May 2015. Witnesses told Amnesty International that the fire came from Houthi-controlled Hugeif; two rounds hit the crowd after the first landed in the sea.
One witness reported at least 45 deaths, including a mother and her infant. This was a witness’s toll, not an independently verified enumeration of all victims. Um Mohamed described her son Mohamed being struck in the head while helping a child.
