What happened

Houthi authorities announced educator Sabri al-Hakimi’s death in March 2024 after approximately six months in custody, according to the National Commission for Prisoners and Abductees’ statement carried by Yemen Shabab Net. He had directed training at the education ministry.

Rights official Fahmi al-Zubairi accused the Houthis of torture, while the commission described unexplained circumstances and requested an impartial investigation. The cause of death remains unresolved in this record.

A follow-up published on 30 March 2024 reported that his body was released to the family on 28 March under conditions requiring prompt burial and barring forensic examination, with threats of punitive measures. It cited MP Ahmad Saif Hashid questioning conflicting accounts of the death; this does not establish a definitive medical cause.
