What happened
A man returned to his al-Shaqb home in August 2022 to retrieve stored wheat after displacement by fighting. An object he stepped on at the doorway exploded. He lost several fingers and sustained severe leg, eye and other injuries, leaving permanent disabilities.
Human Rights Watch documented the incident in its al-Shaqb investigation, citing residents who said Houthi forces planted mines in and around homes and farms. Attribution rests on residents’ accounts of mining in the area, not identification of the person who laid this particular device.
