What happened

A child suffered burns and serious injuries when a mine exploded in al-Omari village near Mokha in December 2018 while he and his father tended livestock. The father described his son as fifteen and said he ran to him after the explosion and wrapped his wounds with a headscarf.

Human Rights Watch documented the incident in its investigation of Houthi mining on the western coast. Attribution relies on the investigation and accounts of mining in the area, not observation of the person who planted this specific mine.
